Meals on Wheels

Meals-on-Wheels Service.

The Meals-on-Wheels volunteers cook approx. 30 meals each day for clients 5 days a week.  On Friday an extra meal is delivered for Saturday.  We have approx. 66 volunteers, ladies and gentlemen, who provide and distribute a variety of meals, five days a week on a rota basis.  The cooks arrive between 8.30 and 9 and by 11 o’clock, the dinners are ready and packed for the drivers to deliver.  There is a small charge for the meals, which is collected by the drivers every Friday.   This is a wonderful service and grateful thanks to all the volunteers who give of their time and support to this very special service in the community.

The service, supported by the HSE, was designed to provide nourishing meals for mainly elderly people, or those recovering from an illness or just out of hospital who are unable to prepare a proper cooked meal for themselves.

This service is always in need of helpers and if interested, please contact the Meals-on-Wheels kitchen, at 4362289 or call into the kitchen any morning and leave your name and phone number.  We cover a wide area within the greater Douglas area, including Donnybrook, Grange, South and main Douglas Rd., Douglas village and Rochestown.
